History

The seed that germinated into the Upland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was sown in the Ontario First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during the early 1960’s. The sowers were a group who had seen several fine families move away from Ontario First Christian to join churches in the Upland area. In talking to their friends, they found there was support for a new Christian Church in Upland. A committee was formed to make plans for the beginning of the new church in Upland.

The first meeting of the Upland Christian Church was held on May 17, 1964 at Elton’s Restaurant. In June, 1964, we moved to the Upland College site at San Antonio and Arrow Highway. We purchased our new property at 15th and San Antonio (1510 North San Antonio Avenue in Upland) and held the first church service on this property on September 28, 1969 (no buildings existed yet). With the new building more or less complete, our first service in the building was held on Sunday, May 10, 1973. We have been holding services every Sunday at this location ever since. We currently also have Carden Arbor View School located on our property. However, they are not associated with our church.
